It's Not What You Think

It's Not What You Think

What can run faster than you, farther than you, find you under the covers or under the bed, or up in a tree, whether you’re in a relationship or out of a relationship, 10 years old or 100 years old…

It can get you while you’re eating breakfast, or resting on the couch.

Whether you’re a real go-getter, or a sedentary procrastinator.

It does not stop when you say stop. It goes for your family, your pets, and your neighbors.

May come and go, or stay with you for life.

It can’t be crushed, killed, or forgotten about with swords or pills.

Well, perhaps temporarily on occasion.

But not for the long run.

And the harder you try to run from it the more crushing it gets.

Until you stop running. And face it…

Have you guessed it?

You know it.

It’s pain.

Facing pain may or may not make it subside. But at least now you don’t have to run anymore. You find a way sit with it, to learn from it.

A way to change your approach, and your mindset from outdated to updated.

You respond now instead of react.

You learn, grow, and rest from all the running.

I’m grateful for the wild animals that choose to stay, for a picture, and an interaction, instead of running away.

There’s a depth that emerges between us when they stay… that is absent when either of us run away.
